Somebody donated the exact piece of equipment I needed. It solved a real problem in my life. Now I want to help make sure other people in Griffin know this help is here.
My name is Mark Rosenthal, and I live with progressive multiple sclerosis. My right side has become very weak, and falling is something I have to deal with more often than I would like.
When I fall, getting back up can be a major problem. I'm 6'4" and about 220 pounds, so it is not easy for my two sons - or anyone else - to simply pick me up from the floor. I knew I needed some type of lifting equipment that could safely raise me back up.
That's when FODAC Griffin made a difference in my own life.
They already had a donated lifting system in their warehouse that was exactly what I needed. They checked the equipment, tested it, and showed me how it worked. My son picked it up and brought it home.
It was exactly what I needed. It solved a real problem for me.
That experience made this mission personal.
Somebody, somewhere, had equipment they no longer needed and chose to donate it. FODAC Griffin was there to receive it, prepare it, and make sure it could help somebody else. That somebody turned out to be me.
That is why I wanted to create Helping Griffin and volunteer my time to help spread the word. There are other people in our community who need wheelchairs, walkers, lifts, and other equipment - and there are people with unused equipment sitting in their homes who may have no idea how much it could change another person's life.
And none of it works without the people willing to donate, volunteer, clean equipment, and help get it ready for the next person.
I know firsthand what a difference one donated piece of equipment can make.
